A New Year often means a new you. Whether it’s to lose weight, be more social or get more organized it’s good to set goals for yourself. Now what about some New Year’s resolutions for you and your pet?
Here are a few suggestions for you and your pet to have a successful 2017:
Make your pet as healthy they can be
Just as whole foods made with real meats, fruits, and vegetables are healthy for us, and processed foods should be limited or avoided – the same dynamic now exists for pet food. Start making it a point to look at the ingredients you’re serving your pet. Just like the saying goes, you are what you eat, and the same applies for your pet!
Find an exercise that you both enjoy.
Your pets deserve the healthiest and happiest life you can give them. Just like with our own lives, exercise and activity are key elements of an enriching life for our pets. Whether it’s a weekly trip to your favorite dog park to play or hiking around a new park/trail, find an activity that you both enjoy.
If you are more of a cat person, make sure you set aside some quality time with your furry friend to play games with their favorite toy.
Make a yearly appointment with your vet
It may not be your pet’s favorite thing to do, but it’s a crucial factor in ensuring their health and being able to catch any issues that may come up and treating them faster. This is also the time for you to ask your vet for any recommendations or any questions you may have.
Have a customized diet plan
In between meals, your pets might give you extra love and attention knowing they will most likely be rewarded with a treat.
While a few treats here and there won’t immediately affect your pet, if it’s every single day, overtime this can cause them to become overweight. The rule of thumb for a healthy body condition is to be able to feel your dog’s ribs without necessarily being able to see them. Try to implement a strict eating schedule every morning and night to ensure that your pet is getting the right amount of food so extra pounds don’t creep up.
Bring in the new year not only with yourself in mind, but also with your loving pet. Keep your pet safe this year with our January special and pick up a registered microchip for $19.99. They deserve to be happy, safe, and healthy all year through — just like you.
