Wellness isn’t just for humans – our pets should also have consistent healthy diets, exercise routines, and vet appointments. In today’s blog we go over some ways you can ensure your pet is living their best lives!
- Exercise
Whether it’s going for short, frequent walks around the neighborhood, playing fetch at the park, or having your cat chase their favorite string toy, there are many ways to keep your pet active – remember it’s in their nature to be active creatures! Consider taking your dog for a hike, a swim in the pool, or socialize them at a doggy daycare that allows them to interact and play with other dogs. For your cat, make sure they have plenty of toys to chase around or a scratching post to get after. Additionally, consider adding another kitty to your family – it not only means more cuddles for you, but your cat will warm up and enjoy getting to chase around and play with their new feline sibling.
- Diet
What they eat is just as important as the exercise they get! Talk to your veterinarian to find the best food for your cat and dog. There are many food and diet options on the market today to pair with your dog or cat’s special condition, age, breed, and more. Making sure they are receiving the right amount of vitamins, protein, fats, and carbs should be one of your top priorities as a responsible pet owner.
- Dental Cleanings
Did you know, many diseases, illnesses, and infections in our pets, such as infections in their kidneys, can result from poor dental health? Though scary, it’s important to know this is preventable with regular dental checkups and cleanings with your veterinarian. Make at least one-two appointments for your dog and cat to get their teeth examined and cleaned annually. Additionally, ask your veterinarian about at-home brushing routines! There are various pet toothbrushes and toothpaste to choose from and your vet can give you tips on what the best option is for your cat or dog. Plus, who doesn’t love fresh kitty and puppy smooches?!
- Wellness Exams
Overall wellness exams should take place at least once or twice a year for your dog and cat! Your vet and their team will be able to monitor the health of your pet and any underlying issues they may be experiencing. As pet parents, we must remember that we are the voice for our pets, and taking them to the vet will determine if there are any issues your dog or cat may be experiencing behind the naked eye.
- Vaccinations & Preventatives
Keep your pets up to date on all immunizations and flea/heartworm preventatives to ensure they live long and happy lives! Your vet will let you know and keep records on what vaccinations your dog and cat need and when they need them. They will also let you know about the many options available for flea/tick and heartworm preventatives such as Bravecto, Simpirica Trio, Frontline, Revolution+ and NexGard (just to name a few!).
